Flaring

Tube flaring is an end-forming process designed to provide for a tight seal at the end of a tube. In this process, a flare nut is slipped onto a tube, and the end is then flared, typically to a 37° or 45° angle. Tightening the flare nut onto a threaded fitting completes the flaring assembly without need for a gasket .
